Booking and Bail in California

Wheather a person has been arrested for domestic violence, DUI, DWI or any other offense the process is the same. Persons taken into custody by the Police or Sheriff's Department will be held at either the Police Station Jail, Sheriff's Station Jail or will be transfered to the Los Angeles County Jail (IRC) and will be kept there until their first court date called the "Arraignment." Bail is allowed to be posted in any facility 24hrs a day, 7 days a week.

Before a bail bond is turned in and accepted, the arrestee must pass a background check through "Live Scan", which is a machine that is linked to a county, state and national database. That database will notify the authorities of any possible holds, warrants, or aliases that might prevent release or increase the total bail amount of an arrestee. Once the results of the Live Scan come back from the various government agencies, that person is then "cleared" to bond out. At this time, a jailor will review and accept a Bail Bond for an arrestee and release them on the Bail Bond.

From the time a Bail Bond is turned in, it takes between 30 minutes and 3 hours for a release depending on the facility where the person is being held. Release times do vary based on the workload of the jail's staff as well as the type of facility. Once out, a person will need to complete his or her part of the paper work, take a picture, and make sure to show up to each and every court date thereafter.

The city of Carson, officially incorporated on April 4, 1968, is the youngest municipality in the South Bay Region of Los Angeles. The city itself is considered a suburb of Los Angeles and as of the 2000 census is estimated to be home to 89,730 residents. Carson has a pleasant climate, experiencing an overwhelming majority of sunny days, an average of 263, and only around 35 days with measurable precipitation. Carson plays host to not only many residents, but a number of attractions including California State University, Dominguez Hills, and the Home Depot Center. The university, built in 1965 after the Watts riots due to outcry over lack of higher education in a suburb dominated by African Americans, the school is now one of the most diverse campuses in the United States and is largely a commuter school. The University was originally located in Palos Verdes, but moved in the late 1960s to allow more space for the growing student body. The Home Depot Center located in Carson is home of the Los Angeles Galaxy soccer team. The Galaxy recently signed soccer superstar David Beckham in 2007; Beckham will be returning to the Galaxy after playing for his home country of England in the upcoming World Cup. Carson was also home to the famous Battle of Dominguez Rancho in 1846. This site also marked the first drilling for oil in the city in 1921, and shortly after, the scenery would be dominated by over 350 oil derricks, industrial complexes and tank farms. The oil boom lead to an increase in jobs and a post-war population boom. On average, the city produced 300 barrels of oil from their wells through the 1960s.
